Streetwalk, Summer Meltdown & 5k Race Highlights

Despite the unrelenting heat and humidity and thunderstorm, hundreds of Lakewood residents and people from a far turned out to enjoy a fun filled day. From kids races, skateboarding demonstrations, watermelon eating contest and then the first ever evening 5k race, everyone had a great time. The Sprinkler Zone, also known as “Moose Sprinkler Park” created by Michael Gill, may have been the most popular attraction, at least for the kids!  Take a look at the video provided by Dan Morgan as proof! (click HERE for another Michael Gill video of the Zone provided by Dan Morgan) The Beer Garden was popular with the adults at the Meltdown Party after the race. The Burning River Ramblers provided great entertainment giving the crowd a chance to cool down and listen to some wonderful music. Race results are available now at Hermes Cleveland.

Marcia Moll, Rick Sicha and Heather Rudge were presented with the LakewoodAlive Laskey Service Award on the steps of the Lakewood Library. The three are members of Lakewood’s Heritage Advisory Board and were recognized for their many years of service with numerous Lakewood organizations including LakewoodAlive’s Main Street Revitalization Program.

Chocolate Walk 2011

Chocolate Walk 2011 was a Great Event!!

The weather cooperated and the rain stopped before 300 walkers set out for the “Adult Trick-or-Treat” visiting 30 Downtown Lakewood merchants and collecting their loot. The line at Lakewood Federal Savings was around the block before 6 where the anxious crowd waited to check in and collect their shopping bags. Charlie Chonka cut the ceremonial ribbon, and the walkers filed in. From one end of Downtown to the other, the streets were alive with the 300 that were lucky enough to get tickets to this quickly sold out event.

Enjoy some of the pictures taken during the walk, to the end where they gathered at Rozi’s Wine House to enjoy a sundae bar provided by Drug Mart and entertainment from Cat’s on Holiday and maybe a little early holiday shopping!
