On June 24th thru the 26th 2010, the residents, merchants and Block Clubs joined together in the First Annual CityWide Street Sale. This three day event included over 100 individual residents, 55 merchants and 16 Block Clubs. Stores on Detroit and Madison Avenues were decked out with red, white and blue balloons as were the residences in the hopes of attracting bargain shoppers in droves.
We sent out surveys to the participants in the sale and the results are in.
Who responded to the survey? 31% Merchants; 53% Residents and 15% Block Clubs
Businesses described business during the sale
21% had a significant increase
35% had an increase
35% stayed the same
89% rated the advertising for the event as adequate or better
79% of the participants utilized the red, white and balloons for advertising
60% of the participants indicated the event met or exceeded their expectations
In response to the question of which day did you see the most traffic the response was:
20% said Thursday, June 24th
11% said Friday, June 25th
43% said Saturday, June 26th
25% said all days about equal
93% said this date worked for them
83% said they would recommend this event to another person
64% said they would participate again next year
Thanks to all who got involved! The response was amazing. It’s a lot of work to get ready, but we hope everyone had a good time, cleaned out that “stuff in the basement”, and made a few dollars. The weather DID co-operate in spite of the clouds! Some people went to great lengths to get their sale noticed! Click HERE to view photos on Flickr taken around town during the 3 day event.
