Spooky Pooch Parade is back again, and will be held Saturday October 16th, 2010 in Downtown Lakewood on Detroit Avenue. Grab your leash and attend the only event of this kind in our area.

You may download the entry form HERE. Deadline for mail-in registration to strut your stuff in the parade is October 15th and the cost is $10.00. Registration on the day of the parade is $15.00.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or vendor for this event you may download the form and information HERE. Having a table at the parade is a great way to promote your business or organization. Information on how to donate an item for our raffle is included.

Proceeds from the parade benefit Lakewood Animal Shelter and Downtown Lakewood Revitalization. Raffles, prizes for pets and owners, coloring contests for the kids and more.

Chocolate Walk 2010

This year, the 2nd annual Chocolate Walk will be held Thursday October 28th starting at 6:00pm and ending with the Sundae Bar. Last year’s event SOLD OUT! This year we will have music again on the street. Make sure to check back soon for more details and a list of the participating merchants and ticket sale locations along Detroit Avenue. Interest in joining the Chocolate Walk is already brewing and the phones are ringing off the hook at our office!

Advanced ticket sales (limit 2 tickets) will be available to LakewoodAlive Investors (click on link for details) beginning September 7th and ending on the 10th*, after which tickets will be available to the general public. Tickets are limited so don’t miss out on this year’s elegant trick-or-treat for adults.

H2O Volunteers in Downtown Lakewood

Proving once again that Lakewood is indeed Ohio’s “Best Place to Raise Your Kids”…

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Lakewood High School H2O (Help to Others) student volunteers performed service work throughout the community.

One enthusiastic group came to the LakewoodAlive office to make Valentines for soldiers serving our country overseas. Several students also volunteered to help with the removal of holiday decorations on Detroit Avenue.

Panera Bread generously provided bagels and orange juice to the surprised delight of the students. Another great day in Lakewood!

New Businesses in Downtown Lakewood

Over the last year we have seen a lot of changes in our downtown area. New eateries like Panera Bread, Five Guys Hamburgers, and the expanded coffee shop Root Cafe are just the beginning. There are more exciting changes coming over the next few months, and that means more choices for Lakewood residents. This growth means jobs for our community too. Downtown Parking

With so many events in Downtown Lakewood, it’s important to have ample parking. Most streets have parking available at meters or you can park along the side streets and just walk a few steps to our events. There are also three parking lots on the north side of Detroit Avenue and four lots on the south side of Detroit. Always check the information on the event you are attending to see if there are any special guidelines or arrangements for parking. You can view a map of the parking lots here. Downtown Commercial Space

Re-development is continuing in the downtown Lakewood area and that means opportunity for companies looking to locate their business or office space in the area. Panera Bread opened late in 2009 at Detroit and St Charles Avenue and just up the block is the new Five Guys Hamburger Restaurant. In 2010, Robeks joined the growing list of downtown dining options, soon to be followed by Jimmy Johns Sandwiches and Moe’s Southwestern Grill expected to open in Fall, 2010. We have prepared a brief overview of available office space and contact information for your review. Lakewood Open House 2010

Lakewood is a great place to call home, and it has a broad selection of houses, condo’s and apartments to choose from. Lakewood Downtown Open House is scheduling another day to view some of the housing properties. Coming up in September they will showcase homes for sale within walking distance of Lakewood’s revitalized downtown commercial district.
